Clustered services

Clusters are multiple nodes working together to achieve a specific goal. The nodes can be virtual instances in a cloud, but also dedicated servers. There are different types of clusters, all serving a different need. The most known clusters are a high availability cluster and a load balancing cluster.

High availability cluster

When the cloud is not an option high availability can be created by replication. This means that there are one or more copies of the data or complete server. When one fails, the other(s) will take over.

Load balancing cluster

Load balancing is primarily used for high traffic websites and applications. The traffic is spread over multiple nodes with either shared storage or replicated storage. The main goal is high performance.

Load balancing can be combined with the high availability cluster, but high availability can also be achieved by using virtual machines in a cloud. Our private cloud solution has standard load balancing solutions integrated.
